About the SUSHI Project

Food impacts our health and the health of our planet through agriculture, aquaculture, and the raising of livestock. It is impossible to separate food from the health of humans and our environment. The SUSHI Project has set out to increase sustainable access to healthy food for and by those who often suffer the most harm from food and the impacts of the food industry.

The ultimate aspirations of the SUSHI Project, to:

  • Increase diversity within the agricultural workforce

  • Increase economic opportunity and sustainability within aquaculture while focusing on excluded and disadvantaged populations, and

  • Explore new market opportunities for hemp grown in the US

SUSHI aims to create sustainable aquaculture systems which can provide both fish and fresh produce, training the next generation of diverse professionals and technicians to be able to develop and operate these systems. Increasing knowledge and training in this area will increase economic markets and production sustainability for both fish and hemp. The SUSHI Project is exploring the use of hemp as a fish feed and seeks to eliminate safety concerns regarding its use, which will potentially increase market demand for hemp grain, benefiting producers and processors. Above all, the SUSHI Project seeks to equitably address quality of life and health issues through food systems transformation.
